Dr. James She is a university professor and media artist, currently serving as an Associate Professor in Computational Media and Art at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou). His interdisciplinary research focuses on advancing artificial intelligence (AI) and multimedia technologies to drive innovative applications in business, art, media, and cultural domains. James earned his Ph.D. in Computer and Electronic Engineering from the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada, and furthered his expertise through a postdoctoral fellowship at the Computer Laboratory of the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom.
He has published over 120 SCI-indexed journal articles and international conference papers, amassing more than 3,858 citations (h-index=26, i-index=26) and receiving numerous best paper awards. He serves as an Associate Editor for several top-tier international multimedia journals, including ACM Transactions on Multimedia Computing, Communication and Applications (2016-present) and IEEE Transactions on Multimedia (2018-2023), and was named the "2017 Associate Editor of the Year" by ACM. Beyond his academic and editorial roles, James has filed 11 patents, with 7 granted and 5 commercialized, and co-founded several high-tech startups. He has also made notable contributions to the art and media communities, curating 15 exhibitions and creating over 50 artworks. In 2020, as a visiting artist at Qatar Museums, he significantly boosted the profile of AI-generated art, media, and cultural content in Qatar and the region. His tech-driven artworks have been showcased in Qatar, the UAE, South Korea, Australia, Thailand, China, and other countries.
